Can’t download to my computer at expected speeds…?

Question by siztastical: Can’t download to my computer at expected speeds…?
I can’t download files to my computer above approximately 800kb/s. Broadbandspeedtest shows a top speed of around 7.7mb/s as does my isp (BE) but if I download on bittorrent or usenet or even just transfer files on my local network (no internet) the speed won’t go much above 800kb/s :-( I’m using wireless G in my devices and they all have full signal. The problem is OS indepedent so i’m thinking its something to do with the router not forwarding SSL traffic correctly?

You need to understand the speeds you are seeing. Your internet speed is measured in megaBITS per second. Your download speed is measured in kiloBYTES per second. There are 8 bits in a byte. Do the math.

What is a USENET/newsgroups?

Question by Kardon: What is a USENET/newsgroups?
someone told me this:
Why not just use newsgroups? No risk that way, MUCH higher speeds, and SSL encryption. Your ISP can’t see what you’re downloading at all, just that you are downloading.

so what is it? Is it basically a way of torrenting? Please explain.
Also is it free? Send me a link please.

Answer by Tobias
If you want information about the usenet ask wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

Yes you get maximum speed as you are downloading directly from servers, and most of the providers offer SSL encryption by now. So nobody can trace you back. It is not really like torrents, because you are not leeching directly from another person and you are not forced to immediately upload as well.

However, it is not for free. Since it’s similar to the internet you will have to pay for a usenet provider as well. But most of them offer free trial periods, so you can check them out without actually having to pay. The most common would be Usenext (www.usenext.com), but you can also try out Giganews (www.giganews.com) oder Binverse (www.binverse.com)

UseNeXT Client Version 4.81 – Ohne MAC Changen

Shockofgod the Phishing Hijacker!!!

This was on his old channel (Shockawenow) that got banned by Youtube. The Phishing Guide (Part 1) Understanding and Preventing Phishing Attacks www.technicalinfo.net Phishing is a crime. Info below can be found at, en.wikipedia.org In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites (Youtube, Facebook, Myspace), auction sites (eBay), online banks (Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Chase), online payment processors (PayPal), or IT Administrators (Yahoo, ISPs, corporate) are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose URL and look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one. Even when using SSL with strong cryptography for server authentication it is practically impossible to detect that the website is fake. Phishing is an example of social engineering techniques used to fool users, and exploits the poor usability of current web security technologies. Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, public awareness, and technical security measures. A phishing technique was described in detail in 1987, and the first recorded

Power Usenet – A quick video review!

This is a review for the NewsGroup Server “PowerUsenet”. I have never tried them before, and one day I was looking around for a new server with SSL Encryption (It’s safer, my ISP can’t look at what I am downloading this way). After much debate and research, I found 2 matched : Giganews PowerUsenet Now, I have heard that PowrUsenet is actually a Giganews reseller, but I think this may be untrue. See, the exact same 12 connection, unlimited download and SSL Encryption is 29.99 on Giganews, but Only 19.99! Not only is it cheaper, they give you 5 days to use the Server (SSL Included) absolutely free! AND for the first 2 months, you are only charged for 12.99. All charges after that, 19.99. Sweet deal considering I’m paying .99 for an unlimited server, with no SSL and only 8 connections. Again, this may be the BEST deal for a USENET server on the internet. It is by far the best I have found yet. PowerUsenet.Com Also, I am in no way associated with them, I just really really dig their server.
