Question by Brian B: How much does it cost to set up a 24 hour news channel?
I’m not particularly satisfied with the existing mainstream 24 hour news channels in Britain (BBC News 24 & Sky). Supposing I wanted to start one up. What’s the minimum amount of money I would need to raise? Let’s assume I wanted it to be a serious and credible news outlet, albeit a small one, that carried advertising.

I would think at a minimum you would need land for your studios, a building large enough for several studios, offices, and engineering staff and equipment; you would need I would think a minimum of 20 to 25 news reporters since you are 24 hours and they all need some days off, you would need engineers to run the equipment, camera operators. I’m not sure on the cost of equipment but one major supplier of broadcast equipment in the US is the Harris Corp
plus you would need the cost of setting up the equipment, studio lighting, and your studio sets, background curtains, etc. It would not be cheap! Good luck to you!
