Most small business owners I meet are on a shoe-string budget and think that buying QuickBooks is expensive to enter their accounting data. Those same clients want to get in the media spotlight and are again not willing to spend a lot of money to obtain the results. The solution? Buy QuickBooks anyway, and then buy Beverly Mahone’s book!

In Beverly’s book, she shares countless tips on how to present your business to the media at little or no cost. This book is an easy read and is packed full of resources to help launch your business in the PR world.

When I first opened the book, I immediately wanted to jump to Killer Tip Bonus: Controversy Sells! but I made myself read the book from the beginning. I absolutely loved the introduction which made me want to read more. I followed Killer Tip #1 about promoting age & experience by not dying my hair anymore to let my grays shine through. I look very young for my age and want to look like a ‘seasoned’ accountant. One woman was excited to know I was older because she did not want to “hang” with a youngster!

Beverly shares her experience to help you not make mistakes when contacting the media and talking to reporters and how to properly behave in interviews. She even lists key people to contact, instead of writing to the generic “editor”. She also guides you how to create a killer press release. One of her tips is to follow journalists on Twitter, and in her book she lists a handful of websites to view to pick who you want to follow. I would never have thought about doing that.

For tips on seminars and workshops, Beverly points out some useful places to host a class, host a teleseminar, and which sites to use to promote your event. In her section about being the Media, Beverly tells about different avenues you can use to tell your story to promote yourself using the Internet.

Beverly’s final Killer Tip inspires you to make it Your Time to Shine!!

This is a book that teaches you how to use your skills and age in getting attention from the press, to the point at which they start calling you as the expert in whatever field you’re representing, and thus helping to increase your presence and your business. It’s an easy read and the tips are good ones because I was able to immediately apply one of the tips and made a media contact locally that will call me whenever certain types of news stories come up. That’s easily worth the cost of this book, and definitely worth recommending.
