RPG Resources: Usenet, Message Boards & Web Forums
I talk about some online text based resources for those that play tabletop role-playing games.
@tetsubo57 Meetup isn’t to bad either depending on your city, better to meet people in person and talk shop then online. Though as of late I have given up meeting anyone due to personal issues
@Webhead123 I left shortly after the ‘heaven’ storyline started as well. I just thought it got unfunny.
Back when I had more time to follow forums, I used to frequent RPGnet, the Mutants & Masterminds forums, Penandpapergames and a couple others.
*SPOILERS*
I also used to follow OotS. For whatever reason, I fell away from it around the time Roy died and was running around Heaven (or the Positive Energy plane or whatever it was supposed to be). I should revisit it again as it was quite funny for a time. I was also a fan of 8-bit Theater but lost touch with it around the same time as OotS.
@Aristocritic It was at that time that I thought it got unfunny. Maybe I misremember why I walked away. I am getting older.
As far as I know Order of the Stick never switched over to 4th edition. Back in ’08 he said he wasn’t making the switch. Perhaps he switched while I wasn’t paying attention. I admit I don’t follow it like I used to.
@Samwise7RPG And that would be why they are dying. Most ISPs don’t even offer access any longer. I get mine through a free third party source. Usenet is an awesome resource and I am saddened by its passing.
@Andulvar I don’t think I have used an IRC format in over a decade. I used to frequent them though. Mostly for one particular woman…
Nice. I only frequent RPGnet and White Wolf forums. I’ll have to check out some of these.
Hey come now, we’re not THAT annoying on RPGnet…
I’m an RPGnet regular, I find the rules and guidelines help keep out the riff-raff I see on unmoderated boards. Those who flame out there often move over to therpgsite; I don’t bother going there. I’ve not seen any needless banning: personal attacks, hate speech, or repeated dickery gets somebody sacked (usually after a warning or two). It’s got the Ignore List feature I don’t use it often. I have very contrary views of the crowd and I’ve only ever been warned once (and I deserved the warning).
Never use Usenet, I use IRC or visit the chan sites
