Question by Raging Moderate: Do you think that the cable news channels are an informative source of information or entertainment?
This question refers to the all of the talking heads. There is news, there are opinions and there are opinions dressed up as news. You need to understand that concept to understand the intent of this question. I think they exist for ratings (advertising dollars) and if they were not telling their audience what they want to hear, rather than striving for accuracy, their audience would not be there 24/7 and that would impact the price of their stock. This is where truth comes to die.

In a capitalist society where cult of personality sells all news is infomercials

Question by Frauloon Bachmann: Why doesn’t Fox news advertise itself as the biggest in CABLE news?
Instead of saying in it’s constant self promotional commercials as the ”biggest name in news’? Would it be more ‘fair and balanced’ to put the word CABLE in there?
Answer by scotgirl60
Because they have more viewers than any other news show, on cable or regular tv, that’s why.
From a wiki article:
In the third week of January 2010, Fox News was the highest rated basic cable channel in primetime. This marked the first time that a news network led the primetime ratings, beating out entertainment networks such as ABC, NBC, and CBS. Also in January 2010, Public Policy Polling reported that Fox News was the most trusted television news network in the country with 49% of respondents stating they trust Fox News.. Fox also scored the lowest level of distrust with only 37%, and was the only network to score a net positive in that regard, with a +12%. CNN scored second in the poll with 39% of those polled stating that they trusted the network, and 41% stating distrust, a -2% net score.
Facts are facts, even if you libs disagree with them.

Question by tastybooger: Where can I find rate cards for cable TV advertising by DMA?
I am drafting an advertising budget and am looking for ballpark numbers of per spot advertising on news stations in a variety of cable markets. Does anyone know if there is an online source of rate cards (even last quater or last year’s rates will help enough for budgeting purposes).
Answer by Dr. Deth
call the advertising dept at those stations and ask them what they charge

Question by Mikezoola: How do I gain access to Usenet services compliments of Time Warner Cable Internet?
I have been told this is possible with some 8GB limit or something along those lines. Often I see this as a pay service but supposedly there is some way that your ISP allows you to do this for free, can anyone elaborate for me?
Answer by S.H. Rooms
Time Warner might give you access to their newsgroups, but you might have to subscribe to a service like Giganews for better service which is more comprehensive.
