Has anyone responded to news paper adds with a company advertising “Travel USA w/fun group” & the result is?

Question by Glenda: Has anyone responded to news paper adds with a company advertising “Travel USA w/fun group” & the result is?
I’m concerned because of an add in the news paper and my teenager child interested in contacting this company for employment. I smell a rat, and I believe this company is not legitimate? Has anyone had this experience directly and what transpired of it. I’ve looked all over the internet and I can’t find the name of the company with the listed 800 number, they seem to be a ghost, which is a huge RED FLAG. Help please.

Big time Red Flag! These companies like to hire children to go from door to door to sell magazines and lie about a trip to a foreign island to convince the homeowner to purchase from them. This is so old time and misgiving, so please tell your child it’s rubbish. Not only that, but they are not supervised and anything can happen. The kids barely get paid for anything. A Mother’s intuition is always right on.

If I join a usenet group and pay recurring member fees, would downloading copyrighted songs still be illegal?

Question by Nick2006: If I join a usenet group and pay recurring member fees, would downloading copyrighted songs still be illegal?
Can I still be sued in this instance?
response to first answer: then why does usenet.com advertise this stuff
“Join us today and start building your music collection!”
and this:
“to join the BEST newsgroup provider on the Internet and download all the cool MP3s your heart desires!”

Best answer:

Answer by slagathor238
Yes, it’s still illegal. You can’t legitimise stealing someones copyrighted property by paying a fee to someone else.

I want to subscribe to a USENET group called alt.security. How to do it ? Can I subscribe using Thunderbird?

Question by nemo: I want to subscribe to a USENET group called alt.security. How to do it ? Can I subscribe using Thunderbird?
Please explain to me clearly. I always find it difficult to know more about USENET groups and tired reading FAQ about USENET groups.

You need to have a news reader program on your system to read the USENET news. An example of such a program is Microsoft Outlook Express (not Microsoft Outlook). This is a NNTP client and a news reader. Then you need to connect to an NNTP server (There are thousands of them, search for some of them). When you connect to one of the servers, it will show you which all USENET groups it can support. Your alt.security will be there most probably. And then you can use it to read the news.

I know I am not sufficiently clear but right now I do not have more time to write about it.
Then there are some servers which allows only reading but not posting whereas some are there which allows both. This whole thing is actually very simple but takes a while to understand.

The easier solution is go to groups.google.com and navigate to alt.security and read it online.

Hope it helps.

A Usenet group I frequent has become mired in spam. What can I do to get rid of all the spam?

Question by gogoforeman: A Usenet group I frequent has become mired in spam. What can I do to get rid of all the spam?

Best answer:

Answer by bill45310252
Because you included the word all in your question there is no answer that will get rid of ALL spam in Usenet groups. The only way to effectively reduce spam would be by Usenet itself setting policy. Even that would not be an effective means of getting rid of ALL spam….

But it would be a start.
