There are lots of Usenet Newsgroups here on Yahoo. You can look around and see if there is one that has the material you seek, including archives. The link to Yahoo’s Usenet Newsgroups is below.

Is there a Usenext trial without subscription?

Question by dionysos: Is there a Usenext trial without subscription?
Usenext is offering a 14 day trial for its usenet service. Thats fine so far but the downside is that you have to give them your details and agree to a subscription plan if you not cancel in time. Does anyone know if there is a way to try out usenext without subscription?

Is there a email interface to read yahoo answers? (Outlook or Windows mail)?

Question by Crazy Palms: Is there a email interface to read yahoo answers? (Outlook or Windows mail)?
Hi – Yahoo answers is a great resource. I would like to know if there is a email plugin for Outlook 2010 or Windows mail (or even gmail) to read the Yahoo answers – just like we can read a newsgroup in a email client like Windows mail.

Is this possible? That would be very useful. Today, I get an email when my questions are answered; what I am looking for is to read others questions and answers in a email client (just like I would read a usenet newsgroup via email client)

Thanks for any help here !!!

Not directly that I know of. However, if you go to the HOME page of Yahoo Answers and scroll down about 1/2 way, on the RIGHT, there is an RSS feed link there. If you click on that, you can ‘subscribe’ to that RSS feed and that might do what you want.

Are there any usenet service providers that are better than Easynews?

Question by werqwed: Are there any usenet service providers that are better than Easynews?
The main reason I really like Easynews is because of their great search options and overall user interface. Is there any USP out there with an unlimited gig pricing option that has the same type of user friendly interface as well as search options? Thanks.

Is this why there is so much mention of Hitler and Nazis on this board?

Question by Opie Taylor: Is this why there is so much mention of Hitler and Nazis on this board?
Godwin’s Law

The most famous of all the internet laws, formed by Mike Godwin in 1990. As originally stated, it said: “As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.” It has now been expanded to include all web discussions.

It is closely related to the logical fallacy “reductio ad Hitlerum”, which says “Hitler (or the Nazis) liked X, so X is bad”, frequently used to denigrate vegetarians and atheists.

Common Godwin’s Law appearances include describing women’s rights campaigners as “feminazis”, comparing the former US President George W Bush to Hitler, or saying Barack Obama’s proposed healthcare reforms are the new Holocaust.

In its broader sense it can be used to describe any situation where a poster loses all sense of proportion, for example describing New Labour as “Zanu-Labour” after Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwean political party Zanu-PF.

As well as the descriptive form, it can be used prescriptively: so if any poster does mention the Nazis in a discussion thread, Godwin’s Law can be invoked, they instantly lose the argument and the thread can be ended.

If this is done deliberately to end the argument, however, it does not apply. This codicil is known as “Quirk’s Exception”.
