A sheriff has issued a damning report into the way the emergency services conducted an operation to try and save a woman trapped down a disused mine shaft. In other news: Photographs of a Scottish model have been banned by the Advertising Watchdog because she appears underweight; plans have been submitted to erect huge Olympic rings on the ramparts of Edinburgh castle, but the proposal has sparked outrage; and in sport, Hearts have admitted they can’t afford to pay their players.
