Question by deepak2000: How to access UseNet on Comcast?
I am new to Comcast and UseNet both. Want to know how can I access UseNet? Are there any free news servers?
Answer by Tobias I’m not entirely sure but as far as I know Comcast is only a provider for internet, not for usenet. The easiest way I know to gain access to the usenet is www.usenext.com. The have pretty easy software and as long as you cancel within the trial period you won’t have to pay for it.

First off, you are going to want to sign up for a VPN service. If you are a member of Usenet, you may be entitled to one for free. Best to check with your Usenet provider and see if you are entitled to use one within your membership. A VPN stands for ‘Virtual Private Network’ and put simply for the sake of this tutorial, it will make your device appear to be connecting to the web from (in this case) America rather than your actual location. For the sake of this demonstration, we are going to assume you are trying to access the American library from the UK. All you need to do, is sign up for your VPN and select an American server to use. You will need a VPN toggle from the BigBoss repo in Cydia called SBSettings VPN toggle which is free. For step by step instructions, visit www.howtotech.co.uk Please rate, comment and subscribe!
Question by Nick W: Access to a UseNet Server?
I want to access a UseNet server but I don’t know of any sever addresses or free servers! Can someone point me in the right direction?
I have Unison 1.7.9 installed on my MacBook.
Answer by dietbarqs12345 If you haven’t yet, check with your ISP. Comcast and I would expect most others provide you with Usenet access, calling it news server or newsgroups. They don’t really go out of their way to make it known, I suspect because most people don’t care about it and it is not simple to use which would probably cause support problems. My Comcast service uses Giganews with an included monthly usage limit, but can pay for upgrade from Giganews.
Here is a list of other usenet servicers:
www.giganews.com This Giganews video explains how to access newsgroups. Giganews shows how configure two popular clients, Microsoft Outlook Express and Newsbin Pro. Giganews offers a 14 day Usenet Newsgroup free trial. Video Rating: 4 / 5
